At Macquarie Fields High School, our passionate and friendly PDHPE staff aim to provide students with opportunities to learn in a safe, enjoyable, and equitable learning environment through strong quality teaching and learning practices.

PDHPE Years 7-10

The mandatory PDHPE course provides students with an opportunity to learn about a range of health concepts that include personal development, positive relationships, risk management, health literacy and movement analysis. Practical based units of work focus on the development and refinement of fundamental and specialised movement skills in a variety of physical activity settings that promote teamwork, leadership, resilience and confidence.

Stage 5 (Years 9 -10) Elective - Physical Activity and Sport Studies

Stage 5 PASS enables students to further advance their knowledge and skills relating to the study of sport and physical activity. Modules taught include; technology, participation and performance, physical fitness, issues in physical activity and sport, fundamentals of movement skills development, body systems and energy for physical activity, enhancing performance, nutrition and physical activity, opportunities and pathways.

In PASS, students are provided with an opportunity to participate in a range of extra curricular activities such as wheelchair basketball and coaching.

 Stage 5 (Years 9 -10) Elective – Child Studies

Stage 5 Child Studies explores the growth, development, and wellbeing of children from birth through early childhood. Students learn practical skills and knowledge to support and care for children, while also developing an understanding of the social, emotional, and physical needs of children. This subject encourages responsibility, empathy, and problem-solving, and provides a strong foundation for pathways in health, education, and community services.

Stage 6 (Years 11-12) - Preliminary and HSC 2 Unit Health and Movement Science

Health and Movement Science provides students the chance to think critically about key issues related to health and movement. Students develop the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions that contribute to healthy and active lifestyles. Students are provided with opportunities to develop their research skills and collaborate with their peers through depth studies. Health and Movement Science encourages participation, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for health and physical activity. Undertaking this course will provide foundation studies for those students with a special or vocational interest in human movement, individual and community health issues.

Stage 6 (Years 11-12) - Preliminary and HSC 2 Unit Community and Family Studies

Community and Family Studies focuses on the wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities in today’s society. Students investigate a wide range of issues that affect people’s lives, developing skills in research, decision-making, and critical thinking. CAFS provides valuable life skills and is an excellent foundation for further study and careers in health, education, and social and community services.

Stage 6 Sport, Lifestyle & Recreation Studies (SLR) 1 Unit/ 2 Unit (Content Endorsed Course- Non ATAR)

The study of Sport, Lifestyle & Recreation Studies provides students with knowledge, understanding and skills that form a valuable foundation for the range of courses at university and other tertiary institutions.

SLR is a practical dominant subject.
