Initiatives
We offer a number of important initiatives at this school.
Indigenous students from Years 7-12 are supported by the AFL Indigenous program and Opportunity Hub initiatives. AFL Indigenous program focuses on goal setting and mentoring by Aboriginal elder Charlie Mundine. Opportunity Hub programs involve one-on-one mentoring by the senior youth advisor Rachael March in setting career goals and preparing them for different career pathways. Senior Indigenous students are also supported by NRL transition to work program where they are provided with one-on-one support by the NRL youth advisor, Ainslie Regan to explore post school career options or tertiary education pathways.
Howework Club: To support students who require further assistance with their homework, we offer enrolment into Homework club. Homework club operates on every Wednesday from 3:15pm- 4:30pm in the Library. This program is fully funded by the school and offered to students at no cost. Students requiring entry into the program are required to complete an application form which can be obtained from Ms Hegde.
Fast Forward programs will continue to run this year. We have established strong relationships with Western Sydney University (WSU) in past years and, as a result, we have four school years involved in mentoring programs with WSU and it's mentors. Students who get into this program have also been offered the benefits of access to the Studiosity website set up and facilitated by WSU. This enables these students to have special online after school access to a tutor in any subject for those urgent questions and homework help.
ESL students' educational needs are strongly supported at this school by a team of teachers. Support is provided primarily through team teaching and programming approaches. Students are also provided with additional workshops to prepare for senior school assessments and examinations.
International Students are supported by a school team comprising of Head Teacher Teaching and Learning, International student coordinator, International student support teacher and an enrolment officer. Students’ welfare needs and curriculum requirements are closely monitored by this team and individual in class support is provided to all the international students.
Youth Frontier Program is aimed at providing selected students from year 7-10 the capacity to build skills and overcome barriers to their participation in the community. These selected students are mentored by MTC Australia, a non-profit organisation to increase their self-esteem, resilience, leadership skills and capabilities.
