Term 2 Principal Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2 at the fabulous Macquarie Fields High School. We have had a wonderful start to the term with a highly successful Year 8 Camp and ANZAC ceremony in Week 1.

The NSW Teachers Federation has directed its membership to take industrial action in the form of a 24-hour strike on Wednesday 4 May 2022. Members of the NSW Teachers Federation at Macquarie Fields High School will be taking industrial action Wednesday 4 May 2022 in the form of a 24 hour strike.  The school will be providing minimal supervision of students on the day of the strike.

The school’s Cross Country carnival scheduled for Wednesday 4 of May will not run.  Students who would like to compete and trial for the Hume Zone team will participate in a competitor only race. This race is scheduled for Friday 6 May during period 2. Students are asked to sign up at the PDHPE staffroom by Thursday this week. An alternative date for the colour run will be scheduled later in Term 2. If you have any questions, please contact Leah Buxton in the PDHPE faculty.

Recent changes to rules around positive Covid cases and close contacts may cause families some confusion, so I have provided two links below from the NSW government for the most up-to-date information.

https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/management/advice-for-confirmed

https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/stay-safe/testing/self-isolation-rules

If a student or staff member is a close contact and does not have any symptoms, they must:

  1. Inform the school as soon as possible
  2. Test negative on a RAT for five school days
  3. Wear a mask at all times in indoor settings for five school days

If your child requires further RAT kits, please have them ask at the front office.

Finally, I would like to wish all our Muslim families celebrating Eid a very happy time with family and friends. If students are absent today or tomorrow for celebrations, please let us know and we can record it as ‘authorised leave’. The simplest way to communicate this is in response to the SMS you receive from the school.

Kind regards

Karyn
