From Tuesday week 7, until Monday week 8, Year 10 students will be completing the HSC Minimum Standards tests in Writing, Reading, and Numeracy. The tests will be taking place in the Library, D6, and MF1. according to the attached schedule. These tests are completed online using school computers. Using a personal device ie laptop or tablet is not permitted. These tests are compulsory as Year 10 students are required to demonstrate they can achieve the minimum standards in Writing, Reading, and Numeracy to receive their HSC in 2027. If your child misses one or more of the tests, or they don't achieve the Minimum Standard this year, your child will be given the opportunity to take the test(s) again in Year 11, and multiple opportunities will be provided in Year 12 if required. For repeat tests, Mr Antony and Miss Hannaford will be available to provide support and advice on how your child can improve their responses. It is important that your child takes the tests seriously, and tries their best. Important information about the tests Each test is 45 minutes long, and the Reading and Numeracy test each have 45 multiple choice questions. For the numeracy test, students are not allowed to bring a calculator or phone into the test room. An onscreen calculator, and onscreen measuring tools (eg protractor) will be made available for the appropriate questions. Some questions in the numeracy test are non calculator questions. Students will be provided working out/ planning paper for each test. There are sample questions available at https://www.nsw.gov.au/education-and-training/nesa/hsc/minimum-standard/resources#toc-practice-tests, and if your child would like to attempt a practice test, your child will need to see Miss Hannaford in the Library for a PIN letter to access the practice tests. The questions are presented in a similar way to the NAPLAN tests completed last year. If you have any questions about the HSC Minimum Standards Tests, please contact Miss Hannaford or Mr Antony on 9605 3111.
