Invitation for all Year 10 student and Parents

Senior Pathway Night- 31 July 2023- 4pm to 6pm

In response to the parent teacher night last term and the enthusiasm and engagement of parents an additional event has been scheduled. Parents and Year 10 students are invited to attend an afternoon session exploring senior study at Macquarie Fields High School. This initiative looks to strengthen relationships with our families through sharing the expertise of our Executive and senior teachers at an important educational milestone. The focus will be to explore all of the Stage 6 subjects on offer at MFHS and develop a deeper understanding of the learning culture and expectations of our school.

This initiative replaces Taster Week from previous years as we look to improve the information available to both parents and students about senior study. The focus is for our experts in the field to be on hand to discuss the courses on offer with current Year 11 students also available and sharing their own experiences.

Faculties will be based in their classrooms and have stalls and displays with teachers and Year 11 students available to answer questions and show samples of work and activities from each of the subjects on offer. Year 10 students and parents can rotate around the school engaging freely in subject areas of interest. Students are encouraged to attend the evening independently if parents are unavailable.

The library will be utilised for Careers and TAFE displays and support.  The Wellbeing team will also be available in this space.

A 20-minute presentation will also be on rotation in the TLS delivered by Mrs Trieu and Ms Hegde at 5:00 and 5:40. This presentation will provide parents with information about the pedagogical power of our school-based strategies such as formative assessment, the Quality Teaching Model, HPGE strategies and use of technology to support senior learning.

Senior Pathway Night looks to encourage parents to engage in our learning community as informed, active and valued participants in your child’s educational journey. We want to create a welcoming culture of inclusion and belonging for all students and their families. We look forward to seeing you on the night.
